1. Asante Kotoko is back to their best
Asante Kotoko has now won four consecutive Premier League games. A 3-2 win over their rivals on Sunday at Baba Yara has lowered the gap between Fabolous and the first-placed team Samartex to 4 points. Asante Kotoko is lying in 7th place with just two points separating them and the second-placed team. Prosper Narteh’s Kotoko has been playing well in their last four Premier League games.
2. Bechem United proving to be unstoppable
Who is stopping Bechem United now? Augustine Okrah, Cephas Mantey, and Emmanuel Avonyor are enjoying the season as they have been blowing their opponents away with ease in their last 3 games including the 8-0 destruction of Debibi United in the FA Cup. Two 4-0 wins against Karela United and Accra Lions are awesome as Bechem United is the second-best team in terms of goals scored with 20. They are in the top four with just three points behind the leaders.
3. Samartex tops the table for the first time
Samartex is on top of the Ghana Premier League for the first time this season. Yes, the team from Samraboi is comfortably leading the league with 26 points. On Sunday, Nurudeen Amadu’s Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena won 2-0 against bottom-placed Heart of Lions. Samartex has won every game they have played at home so far as they are the only side to do that.
4. Nations FC are punching above their weight
Their fellow newcomers are struggling but Nations FC is getting stronger and stronger and stronger week after week. At the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Nations defeated the then league leaders Aduana Stars 2-1 which has pushed them to third with just 2 points separating them and the top. How can a newly promoted side be so determined and focused this way? It is all down to Kasim Ocansey Mingle’s craft and technical know-how.
5. Richmond Lamptey is a fantastic footballer and deserves a Black Stars call-up
The midfield of Asante Kotoko is extremely great due to the presence of Richmond Lamptey. The former Inter Allies midfielder proved to be the best passer of the ball in the country against Hearts of Oak on Sunday. His accurate and incisive passes are something that we have craved as a nation since Kwadwo Asamoah retired from the Black Stars. He showed Ghanaians that he has what it takes to dine on the table of men.
6. Aduana Stars have moved out of the number one position after 5 consecutive weeks
Aduana Stars’ 2-1 defeat in Abrankese meant a win for Samartex will push them out of the top. Yaw Acheampong’s Ogya Boys have lost 3 of their last 4 Premier League games with just one win. It’s a huge concern considering they won five straight games between weeks 6-10. They are now struggling and this is the time they must show their title credentials.
