Kwame Opoku scored the decisive goal as Asante Kotoko edged past Dreams FC with a narrow 1-0 victory in a tough Ghana Premier League Week 14 clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The striker made the difference in a closely contested and physically demanding match, reacting quickly to finish from close range after Dreams FC failed to properly clear their lines. Opoku, who had missed an earlier opportunity, redeemed himself with a left-footed effort that slipped past goalkeeper Osman Rahman.
Both sides struggled to create clear chances in the opening stages, with play largely concentrated in midfield. Kotoko enjoyed slightly more possession but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Dreams defence.
Dreams FC increased the pressure late in the game and came very close to an equaliser in the final moments. However, a goal-bound effort was cleared off the line, allowing Kotoko to hold on during a tense finish.
At full time, players from both teams showed visible signs of exhaustion, reflecting the intensity of the encounter. The match ended on a respectful note, with Kotoko coach Karim Zito and Dreams FC coach Wilfred Dormon sharing a warm embrace.
The victory ends Kotoko’s four-match winless run and moves them up to third place on the league table. Dreams FC, however, drop into the relegation zone after the defeat.
