1. Kotoko’s free fall calls for concern

This is the state of Asante Kotoko after Week 22: four defeats in the last five GPL games. In their last seven games including the 2024 President Cup, Asante Kotoko has lost 6 and won one. On the league log, Asante Kotoko has retrogressed to 8th with 7 points separating them and the top. It is very alarming to see probably the best team before the end of the first round struggling in every department. On Sunday afternoon, it was always going to be a difficult game in Dormaa Ahenkro as Aduana Stars were in dire need of the 3 points. Prospero Ogum and his charges must buck up else they will be in huge trouble.

2. Duns Park is officially back to its fortress status

The story was different under Micheal Osei in the early stages of the first round for Bibiani Gold Stars at Duns Park as they were struggling to even win at their favourite home grounds. It is now 5 wins in 5 GPL games for Frimpong Manso at Dun’s Park and he won all. Bibiani Gold Stars are five clear points above the relegation zone and can now think of a top 6 finish. With 28 points won from 22 games, Dun’s Park has been the magic for Bibiani Gold Stars. The 2-1 against Bofoakwa looked a bit impossible at times but they managed to protect their lead and clinched the 3 points.

3. Aboubakar Ouattara exudes emotions after Hearts of Oak’s win over Heart of Lions

“Have you seen the fans, what do you have to tell them? Coach Ouattara retorted when quizzed during the post-match interview with Startimes, “I love them, we are fighting for them”. Ivorian manager Aboubakar slapped his chest and pointed at the Phobia fans with immense emotions revealing his love for them. This is so sensational for a coach who has just managed just 5 games. It looks like Hearts of Oak are getting back to their best as they have won 3 and drawn 2 under Ouattara. Phobia is now placed at 7th with 32 points won from 22 games. Their biggest test is coming! A trip to the Nsenkyire Park in Samraboi in Week 23 to face the league leaders, Samartex, will prove to be the biggest game since Ouattara took over.

4. Dominic Amponsah and Blessing Dankwah are the deadly duo of the moment

Ibrahim Tanko’s charges have won all their last 3 games including a record-breaking victory over Kotoko in Kumasi. Accra Lions have scored 9 goals and conceded just 2. Dominic Amponsah has scored a goal in each of the last 3 games while Blessing Dankwah has scored 4 in the 3 games with a brace each against Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea. The youngsters are talented and opponents must start watching them as they can score any type of goal as Diminic Amponsah did at the Baba Yara against Kotoko. They are currently the two most dangerous forwards in the GPL.

5. Is it too early to call Nations FC title contenders?

You may not be wrong if you declare Nations FC as a title contender. They are indeed one of the teams that can win the GPL. Kasim Mingle’s side thrashed Berekum Chelsea 3-0 in an emphatic manner on Sunday. Playing at the DR Kwame Kyei Sports Complex has been so amazing for Nations FC as they remain unbeaten. With 34 points won before their outstanding fixture against Dreams in mid-week, Nations are surely real title contenders. Just underate them at your peril.
