Arsenal star Thomas Partey will lead the Black Stars as captain during the June international break for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Partey, who serves as the deputy captain, steps into the role following the omission of regular captain Andre Ayew from the squad for the upcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic.
Coach Otto Addo addressed his decision to leave Andre Ayew out of the team, assuring that the veteran player’s future with the Black Stars is still open. “The door is always open for Andre Ayew because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Never say never,” Addo stated.
While the specific reasons for Ayew’s absence from the squad remain unclear, it is confirmed that Thomas Partey will take on the captain’s responsibilities for these significant matches.
The Black Stars are set to face Mali on June 6 and the Central African Republic on June 10, with both games being vital for Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign.
