Ghana’s Abdul Aziz Yakubu played a crucial role in Wuhan Three Towns’ 2-2 draw against Urawa Red Diamonds during the first round of the AFC Champions League on Wednesday.
Abdul Aziz Yakubu was part of the starting lineup at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium and completed the full 90 minutes against the Japanese side.
It was the first encounter between these two teams, and the away side dominated possession and registered several shots throughout the match.
Wuhan Three Towns took an early lead in the 10th minute when Zhang Xiaobin found the net with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, placing the ball into the bottom left corner. This goal was assisted by Abdul Aziz Yakubu.
Urawa Red Diamonds equalized in the 55th minute when Bryan Linssen scored with a header from the center of the box, sending the ball into the bottom left corner. Linssen’s goal was set up by Kaito Yasui’s cross.
In the 62nd minute, Wuhan extended their lead to two as Davidson successfully converted a penalty kick.
Despite being on the verge of defeat, Urawa Red Diamonds managed to salvage a point when José Kanté scored in added time.
