Ghanaian defender Akwasi Agyapong joins University of Dayton, targets MLS path after rapid rise

19-year old Akwasi Agyapong is already carving out a compelling football journey far from home, one defined by ambition, courage, and rapid progression. The Ghanaian defender has completed a significant move to the University of Dayton from Lincoln University after just six months, a decision that signals both confidence in his ability and belief in a bigger future.

Agyapong’s transition has been anything but accidental. During his short spell at Lincoln University, the young defender’s composure on the ball, defensive intelligence, and physical presence quickly caught the attention of major scouts. Coaches and analysts within the collegiate soccer space took notice of his maturity beyond his years, particularly his reading of the game and ability to organize from the back. Those performances opened the door to Dayton, a program competing in the highly competitive NCAA Atlantic 10 (A10) Conference, where standards are higher and exposure is greater.

Now wearing the colors of Dayton University, Agyapong steps into an environment known for developing elite talent and preparing players for the professional game. The A10 Conference is widely respected for its intensity, tactical quality, and consistency, and early signs suggest the Ghanaian defender is rising to the challenge. His performances have already begun to make waves, with observers praising his calmness under pressure, aerial strength, and willingness to take responsibility in high-stakes moments.

For Agyapong, the move is about more than just collegiate success. His long-term vision is clear: earning a professional contract with a Major League Soccer (MLS) club. Dayton represents a strategic pathway toward that goal, offering strong competition, quality coaching, and increased visibility among professional scouts.
