Ghana defender Alidu Seidu sustained a serious injury during Stade Rennais’ Ligue 1 match against Lille on Sunday evening. The Black Stars right-back was forced off the field after just 17 minutes, having landed awkwardly and ruptured the cruciate ligaments in his left knee.
After receiving several minutes of treatment on the pitch, Seidu was replaced by Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye. He was later seen using crutches, indicating the severity of the injury.
Seidu is set to undergo a scan on Monday to assess the extent of the damage and determine how long he will be sidelined. Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli commented, “I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow,” regarding the injury.
Meanwhile, a first-half goal from Edon Zhegrova gave Lille a 1-0 victory over Rennais at Decathlon Arena-Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Seidu, who joined Rennais in January 2024, has been a standout player for the team this season, even winning the September Player of the Month award. The 24-year-old also missed Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger due to a prior injury.
