Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo has etched his name in history by becoming the African-born player with the most appearances for Celta Vigo.
The 28-year-old reached this significant milestone during Celta’s 3-1 victory over Real Valladolid two weeks ago, marking his 131st appearance for the Spanish La Liga side.
Since joining Celta Vigo in 2019, Aidoo has been a cornerstone of the team, demonstrating consistent performances and leadership as a central defender. He signed a five-year contract with the Galician club on July 11, 2019, for a reported fee of €8 million, making an immediate impact by debuting on August 24, 2019, in a 1-0 home win against Valencia, where he played the full 90 minutes
Out of his 131 appearances, Aidoo has started 110 matches and come on as a substitute 21 times, contributing three goals. This achievement positions him as the 11th player in Celta Vigo’s history with the most appearances.
Aidoo’s current contract with Celta runs until the summer of 2026, following a contract extension signed in 2022. Additionally, the former Inter Allies defender has represented the Black Stars of Ghana 11 times since making his debut in 2019.
