Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei delivered a solid performance despite FC Lorient’s 1-0 defeat to Pau FC in the French Ligue 2 on Tuesday night.
FC Lorient entered the match aiming to return to winning ways after a 1-1 draw with Metz in their previous game. However, their plans were disrupted as Pau FC took the lead in the 34th minute, courtesy of Senegalese forward Pathé Mboup.
Lorient increased their pressure on the hosts in an attempt to find an equalizer before halftime, but their efforts took a blow in the 40th minute when Moroccan defender Montassar Talbi was shown a red card for dangerous play. Playing with ten men, Lorient found it challenging to keep up with Pau’s attacking advances.
Despite the team’s struggles, Nathaniel Adjei stood out with an impressive display in defense. The Ghanaian teenager was pivotal in keeping Lorient competitive, making key interceptions and showing leadership at the back. He also had the highest passing accuracy among his teammates.
Adjei, who missed the preseason due to injury, has quickly re-established himself as a key player in Lorient’s defense. He finished the game with a rating of 7.8, the highest of any Lorient player.
FC Lorient remains two points behind league leaders FC Metz with ten points in total. Adjei is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup when Lorient faces AC Ajaccio on Friday, September 27, 2024.
