Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku delivered an outstanding performance in AZ Alkmaar’s 2-2 draw against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening. The 20-year-old played a pivotal role in both of his team’s goals during his 78-minute appearance at the Huvepharma Arena.
Poku demonstrated his impressive playmaking skills early on, providing an excellent assist for Ruben van Bommel’s opening goal in the 13th minute. His precise pass expertly cut through the Ludogorets defense, setting up van Bommel for the lead.
Just six minutes later, Poku struck again, this time setting up Seiya Maikuma to double AZ Alkmaar’s advantage, with another well-placed assist.
Despite AZ’s strong first-half performance, Ludogorets fought back in the second half. Goals from Ivaylo Chochev and Ghanaian forward Kwadwo Duah in the 61st and 63rd minutes, respectively, leveled the score and ensured the match ended in a draw.
Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro impressed with a solid performance for AZ, while Ibrahim Sadiq remained an unused substitute.
Poku’s two assists bring his total to three in 10 appearances across all competitions this season, further cementing his value to the team. With this result, AZ Alkmaar stays in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages as they prepare for their final group stage match.
