Ghanaian forward Osman Bukari is left disappointed after his team’s defeat to French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in their Europa League opener on Thursday.
The Ghanaian forward featured for Red Star Belgrade but could do little to prevent his team from defeat to the French top-flight.
He expressed his disappointment after his team lost at home.
“I think this game was not ours. In the first half we controlled the match, we could have scored one or two goals, but we failed to do so.”
“The game was really good, it didn’t end the way we wanted, but that’s football. We must quickly forget this match and turn to the next game,” said Bukari.
“That’s my job [to create chances and score], I always have to be up to the task on the field. I didn’t manage to score or get an assist, I’m sorry about that. I have to keep working hard and fighting for our fans.”
“I repeat that it is my job and when I am on the field I have to run and fight for the team.
Nonetheless, the former KAA Gent attacker praised the supporters of the team by creating a monstrous atmosphere at the arena.
“The atmosphere is always great, it gives us extra motivation on the field. The fans motivate us to give more than our maximum. They are amazing.
The next match in the Europa League against Trabzonspor in Turkey awaits Red Star in seven days.
“This is just the beginning, the first game, we have to continue working hard, of course first of all rest, and then work on our mistakes.”
“We have five more matches in the Europa League, we have nothing left but to focus on the next match, to think about our mistakes and learn from them,” Bukari concluded.
