Malta Premier League leaders Birkirkara FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian forward Seth Paintsil, who is now eligible to make his debut in this weekend’s match against Sliema Wanderers.
Paintsil’s move to Birkirkara marks his return to Maltese football just six months after leaving Ħamrun Spartans. The pacey forward struggled for consistent form during his time with the Spartans but showcased his quality when it mattered most, scoring four goals in a decisive 5-0 victory over Floriana on the penultimate day of last season, securing the league title for the Reds.
Despite his late-season heroics, Ħamrun Spartans opted not to renew Paintsil’s contract, leaving the Ghanaian unattached since the season’s end. Speculation last month suggested a possible reunion with the Spartans after Paintsil was spotted watching their 2-1 win over Gżira United at the Tedesco Stadium. However, Spartans president Joseph Portelli dismissed the possibility of re-signing him.
In recent days, Birkirkara seized the opportunity, offering Paintsil a contract until the end of the season. The signing boosts their attacking options as they aim to solidify their position at the top of the league standings.
