After an impressive season in red & white in 2025, many have wanted to keep Leo Owusu in 2026. It wasn’t easy – but with your help we achieved our goal. (Photo: Qwerty AS)

“It feels amazing to be here. Leo is back, I’m home, says Leo Owusu, who has just signed the papers that will make him an FFK player in 2026.”

The player who came on loan from Serbian Partizan Belgrade returned there after last year’s season – a season in which he impressed many red and white supporters. He played 35 official matches for us, scoring two goals. The equalizer against HamKam and the nail in the coffin away against Sarpsborg 08.

It was a poorly kept secret for a long time that both Leo and FFK wanted to reach an agreement – but with one year left on the contract in Serbia, it was not “just” to get the papers in order.

Now, four days before the start of the series, all parties have reached an agreement – and it is clear that Leo will also spend 2026 on loan with us.

It feels so right to be here. Ever since I arrived, I have been treated well and respected by everything and everyone in this city, even though I was only on loan. Fredrikstad and I have unfinished business. I think we will achieve a lot this year, says the Ghanaian who is clearly happy and relieved to be able to continue his FFK career.

“A quality player”

The club’s sporting management is happy to have the deal finalized, and speaks of a mutually good relationship.

– That FFK loves Leo, and that Leo loves FFK is a well-known fact, so we are happy to be able to achieve this. The signing shows that we are ahead of the curve, and that we can stand strong and prepared in a summer window, says sports director Anders Jensen.

Jensen is happy to keep Owusu in 2026, and believes he has a lot to contribute to an already exciting squad.

– We are further strengthening an already very exciting squad with a quality player.

Amazing “I’m in” response

Yesterday, Tuesday, general manager Espen Engebretsen appealed to the business community in Fredrikstad and the club’s supporters when the club launched an “I’m in” campaign for 2026. The response throughout the afternoon was fantastic, and helped push the transition over the finish line.

– We owe our supporters a big thank you! We received many inquiries from people who wanted to contribute, which led us to launch a campaign. The response was absolutely enormous with almost 200 people contributing, says Engebretsen and adds:

– It is still possible to contribute and be part of the transition, and we greatly appreciate all contributions – large and small!
