North Texas SC have bolstered their midfield with the loan acquisition of Ghanaian prospect Aaron Essel from St. Johnstone FC for the remainder of the season.
The agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent, pending the completion of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Additionally, St. Johnstone retains the right to recall him if necessary.
At just 19 years old, Essel brings valuable experience from Scotland’s top division, having made 18 appearances for St. Johnstone. His energetic and well-rounded style of play made him a standout performer in Scotland.
Before his time in Europe, Essel honed his skills at Bechem United FC in the Ghana Premier League, where he featured in 68 matches over three seasons.
“Aaron is bringing with him established professional and international experience,” said North Texas head coach John Gall. “A midfield dynamo, he takes over the middle of the park with his quality and tenacity. He is a reflection of the standard we are establishing here at the club, and we are looking forward to having him on the pitch for us.”
On the international stage, Essel has represented Ghana at both the U20 and U23 levels, most recently captaining the U23 side against Morocco. His leadership and relentless work ethic are expected to play a key role as North Texas competes in the MLS NEXT Pro season.
