Ghanaian promising attacker Nathaniel Opoku registered his third successive goal for OH Leuven in their victory over Standard Liege in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League on Sunday 23rd April, 2023.
The 21-year-old who is on loan from English Premier League side Leicester City, netted his third in three games as Leuven earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Liege at Den Dreef Stadium in Heverlee in a round 34 fixture.
The Ghanaian attacker scored the opening goal of the match two minutes from the break, thanks to Mathieu Maertens’ brilliant assist.
DR Congo defender Merveille Bope Bokadi, however, equalised for the visitors ten minutes after the interval with Colombian midfielder Steven Alzate setting him up nicely.
In the 63rd minute, Iceland midfielder Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson rstored OH Leuven’s lead after he converted a penalty kick. He scored again to increase the tally four minutes later.
Liege scored again to bring decrease the deficit in the additional minutes of the match through Italian midfielder Filippo Melegoni.
Meanwhile, former Ghana U17 and U20 player Emmanuel Toku was introduced in the game in the 90th minute to replace Thorsteinsson.
Opoku has bagged three goals in 7 appearances so far this campaign for OH Leuven.
