Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku has signaled his readiness for the new season with Turkish giants Fenerbahce, as the club gears up for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Djiku featured in Fenerbahce’s final pre-season match — a narrow 1-0 win over Italian side Lazio — as manager José Mourinho fine-tunes his squad for a tough test against Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
“Pre-season done. Next stop: UEFA Champions League qualifiers. Time to step into the battle and give it all for the badge. Let’s write our story together,” Djiku shared on his social media.
The 31-year-old centre-back has become a key player for Fenerbahce since joining from Strasbourg two seasons ago. His consistency has helped the club secure back-to-back second-place finishes in the Turkish Super Lig.
Despite his impressive performances, reports suggest Djiku may attract interest from French clubs during the current transfer window.
For now, though, the experienced Black Stars defender remains focused on helping Fenerbahce reach the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
