Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful remains optimistic about the future of the Black Stars but emphasizes the need for a solid plan moving forward.
His remarks come in response to the team’s disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Black Stars began their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger, and a goalless draw in the first leg of a doubleheader against Sudan. These results have left Ghana in 3rd place with just two points.
Ahinful, however, believes the team has untapped potential but needs careful planning to succeed. “The ship is not sinking; there is a future, but we need to first of all plan and plan well,” he told Citi News.
The Black Stars have now arrived in Libya for their second leg against Sudan, scheduled for Tuesday. The team is set to hold their mandatory training session tonight, with the match to kick off at the Martyrs of February Stadium at 13:00 GMT.
