Ghanaian talented midfielder Emmanuel Essiam has extended his stay at Swiss side FC Basel.
Essiam initially joined the RotBlau from Ghana Premier League outfit Berekum Chelsea during the 2021/22 season.
The enterprising midfielder made 21 appearances for Fabio Celestine’s men before being shipped out on loan to Stade Lausanne last term.
The young player returned to FC Basel in the summer after making nine appearances for Stade Lausanne.
On Thursday, Essiam extended his stay at the club by penning a two-year deal.
The deal will expire in 2028.
Speaking after signing the contract, the Ghanaian youngster said: “I am very grateful to the club for always supporting me during what was not always an easy time due to the injuries. I see the early contract extension as a big sign of trust, which I really appreciate and I will do everything I can to impose myself on FCB.”
Meanwhile, the club’s Sporting Director Daniel Stucki lauded the player’s qualities and the club seeks to help the the Ghanaian international continue his development.
‘’Emmanuel’s footballing qualities are undisputed, even if various injuries have set him back somewhat in recent years. We firmly believe that he will help our team in the future and we therefore want to give Emmanuel the time and confidence that he can develop without injury.’’
Essiam featured prominently for the Ghana U23 side that failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in France.
