Esteemed referee Daniel Nii Laryea has earned a spot in the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup final tournament in Indonesia, scheduled from November 10 to December 2, 2023.
Laryea stands as the sole Ghanaian match official among the 11 Africans who have made it to the final list of referees for this prestigious youth football competition.
At 34 years old, Laryea boasts extensive experience in officiating, including handling prominent continental matches in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
During the tournament in Indonesia, Laryea will serve as one of the 18 Video Assistant Referees (VARs).
He has previously officiated at events like the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifications. His recent assignments include overseeing last season’s CAF Champions League semi-final first leg match between Wydad AC and Mamelodi Sundowns in Casablanca, which ended in a goalless draw.
In June of the same year, Laryea officiated a competitive 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match between Egypt and Guinea.
Additionally, Laryea served as a Video Assistant Referee during the 2022 CHAN tournament held in Algeria, where he was selected for the final match between host nation Algeria and Senegal at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on February 4, 2023, in Algiers.
