Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has issued a plea to the club’s fans for patience as he endeavors to construct a competitive team capable of performing at the highest level.
The Porcupine Warriors have experienced a sluggish start to the Ghana Premier League season, securing just one point from two matches, with one ending in a draw and the other in a defeat. Their campaign began with a home draw, followed by a 2-1 loss to Bibiani Goldstars at Duns Park.
During a pre-match conference, Ogum expressed his contentment with the team’s performance thus far and emphasized the importance of patience as they undergo a transitional phase.
“If you look at the performance, it’s a process as I have already indicated, we are putting together a new team and if you are building a new team with a whole lot of new players, old players, different identities, different game understanding and intelligence, I mean it will take some time”
Reflecting on the team’s performance in the first two games of the season, Ogum noted that there were positive aspects and a clear need for players to develop cohesion on and off the ball.
“To me, if I look at the two games we’ve played, they did well looking at the way they played. We have to be realistic to ourselves, if you look at certain components of the game within the two games you can tell that they did well. So it’s all about the players getting to know themselves and then knowing how to reacts to each other with the ball and without the ball”
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of patience in the team-building process, emphasizing that they are striving to create a competitive team capable of excelling at any level.
“What I want to tell the fans is that, it’s a process. We are building we are building a team that can compete at any level and building a team that can compete at any level, you need some patience, you some time to be able to do that”
Kotoko is scheduled to face Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in their third fixture of the Ghanaian top-flight season. As of now, the club sits in 17th place on the league table with just one point from their first two matches.
