Ghanaian defender Gideon Jung was instrumental in Greuther Fürth’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Hertha BSC in Bundesliga 2, ending a five-game losing streak against the Berlin-based side.
The visitors struck early, taking the lead in the 5th minute when Ibrahim Maza latched onto Pascal Klemens’ precise through ball and finished confidently. However, Greuther Fürth found their equalizer in the 38th minute. Jung delivered a perfectly placed corner that Noel Futkeu headed powerfully into the net.
Riding their newfound momentum, Fürth took control in the second half. In the 55th minute, Futkeu completed his brace with a composed finish from the center of the box after a well-timed pass by Maximilian Dietz. “That second goal was all about staying focused and seizing the opportunity,” Futkeu said post-match.
The game took a dramatic turn in the 77th minute when Dietz received his second yellow card, leaving Fürth to defend their narrow lead with 10 men. Despite Hertha’s dominance in possession (58%) and their 16 attempts on goal, Fürth’s defense, led by Jung, stood resilient. “We had to dig deep and stay united after the red card,” Jung stated.
The victory moves Fürth closer to mid-table security as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Hannover 96.
