Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak are reportedly finalizing a deal to sign seasoned Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, GHANAsoccernet.com has learned.
The 34-year-old is expected to join the Phobians on a short-term contract as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the second half of the ongoing season.
Wakaso, renowned for his aggressive playing style and pinpoint passing ability, has been without a club since his departure from Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024. Prior to that, he had a brief return to Shenzhen following a loan spell at Belgian side KAS Eupen, where he made 10 appearances across all competitions.
With a wealth of experience from stints at top European clubs such as Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic FC, and Deportivo Alaves, Wakaso’s potential addition promises to inject quality, leadership, and experience into Hearts’ midfield.
Internationally, Wakaso has been a key figure for the Ghanaian national team, earning 70 caps and scoring 13 goals since his debut on October 13, 2012. He has represented Ghana in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, further cementing his status as one of the country’s most accomplished midfielders.
Should the deal be finalized, Wakaso’s signing could serve as a significant boost for Hearts of Oak in their quest for league glory and a strong finish this season.
