1. Samartex extends its lead with a crucial win over Berekum Chelsea
Samartex took a huge step towards the title with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Berekum Chelsea. The win has helped them open a huge five-point gap between the second-placed Nations FC who calamitously drew 2-2 against Tano Bofoakwa.
Nurudeen Amadu’s Samartex are little by little getting closer to the title albeit, there are many games to finish the season. Next is a trip to face Asante Kotoko in Kumasi as a win is needed by the Timber Giants to keep their momentum for the title.
2. Stephen Amankonah is proving his doubters wrong
Berekum Chelsea’s Steven Amankonah had a horrible spell at Asante Kotoko. The talented forward failed to deliver for the Fabulous Asante Kotoko and hence returned back to his beloved Berekum Chelsea. In an inconstant and a bit turbulent season for Bibire, Stephen Amankonah has managed to score 12 goals which makes him the leading goalscorer of the GPL currently. His goals have helped Berekum Chelsea to be around the top 6 of the table for a long time but sit 8th after week 26. The talented forward has what it takes to win the top scorer of the GPL.
3. Salim Adams’ goal outshines Hamza Issah’s brace
Who needs to be in the headline for Hearts of Oak? Youngster Hamza Issah continued his fine season with a brace for Phobia against Karela United on Saturday. Salim Adams scored a beautiful goal that will make every football fan excited. Hearts of Oak needed to win at all costs against Karela on Saturday night. The Phobians conceded an early goal but equalised and won to avoid another horrible day. Salim Adams and Hamza Issah were the kings on the night but who deserves to be crowned the boss as both dazzled?
4. Asante Kotoko is the worst team in the second round
Asante Kotoko sits 11th with just 3 points ahead of the 16th-placed team Karela United. The Porcupine Warriors have beaten only Bibiani Gold Stars in the second round. They have drawn 1 and lost the other 7 of the matches played. They have won just four points with lowly RTU winning 8 in the second round. Asante Kotoko has scored just one goal in their last 4 games. A whole lot of effort is needed before Porcupine Warriors can get out of the mess. If things are not turned around quickly, Fabolous might be in the fight for survival.
5. Tano Bofoakwa secures a very crucial point in Abrankese
Surprisingly, Tano Boakwa has been beaten just twice in their last 9 games in all competitions. They are in a huge battle to avoid relegation. Bofo are just a place above Karela United who occupy the final relegation slot. They are just outside the danger zone on superior goal difference. Bofoakwa nearly ran away with an incredible win on Sunday against Nations FC in Abrankese. The point they secured is a very valuable one considering how good Nations FC have been at home. It will surely be important when the season ends for Tano Bofoakwa.
