Young Apostles delivered a major setback to Bibiani Gold Stars’ title hopes with a commanding 3-1 victory at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Claude Shooting Borrtey opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a stunning free-kick, setting the tone for the hosts. Just ten minutes later, Mattias Van Amegbe doubled the lead, giving Young Apostles a comfortable 2-0 advantage by halftime.
After the break, Issah Husseine extended the lead to 3-0 in the 72nd minute, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Bibiani Gold Stars managed a late consolation goal in stoppage time through Godfred John Arthur, but it was too little to alter the outcome.
The defeat leaves Bibiani Gold Stars in second place, one point behind league leaders Medeama SC, who also suffered a surprising loss to Hohoe United. Meanwhile, Young Apostles move to 14th place with 30 points, climbing two spots above the relegation zone.
The hosts will aim to build on this victory when they travel to face Basake Holy Stars in their next fixture. Bibiani Gold Stars will look to recover and close the gap on Medeama in their upcoming clash against Karela United.
This match highlighted Young Apostles’ attacking efficiency and composure, while Bibiani Gold Stars’ title ambitions were hampered by defensive lapses and inability to respond until the final moments.
