Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has provided an update on the potential return of English-born Ghanaian midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo, suggesting that he could be back in action as early as next week.
The 18-year-old midfielder recently resumed training with the first team after recovering from an injury he sustained during the pre-season.
Mainoo had suffered the injury while playing against Real Madrid in the United States, sidelining him since July.
His impending return is welcome news for Erik ten Hag, especially considering the teenager’s impressive performances during the preseason preparations.
“He is close,” stated ten Hag during a press conference ahead of the Sheffield United match at Bramall Lane.
“He is already training with us. Not today but I think, next week, he will have some minutes in the team. So then he can catch up on his game minutes. He is really improving and ready to get back in the squad for games.”
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Mainoo made his senior debut for Manchester United last season and has so far made three competitive appearances for the Red Devils.
