Ghana Premier League legend, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, who played for both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, has expressed his disappointment with the current dominance of teams like Aduana Stars and Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
In an interview with Onua Sports, Kuffour, who won the league with both clubs, believes that traditional powerhouses like Kotoko and Hearts of Oak should be the ones challenging for the league title.
Kuffour emphasized the importance of these iconic clubs in representing the country in major African competitions, noting their rich history and passionate fan base.
Reflecting on his playing days, Kuffour recalled that the best players in the country would often join Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, resulting in fierce competition within the teams. However, he expressed concern about the decline in their ability to attract top talent in recent times.
“During our time, all the best players in the country were always joining us, but it’s different now,” Kuffour explained. “Hearts and Kotoko are not attracting the best of players anymore, and it is a major worry. Their management should sit up and restructure their recruitment plans well.”
With only four matches remaining in this season’s league, Aduana currently lead the table, with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko trailing by seven and eight points, respectively.
