Hearts of Lions coach Bashir Hayford remains optimistic about his team’s chances of avoiding relegation at the end of the Ghana Premier League season.
The Kpando-based club secured a vital away win over Dreams FC on matchday 30, lifting them out of the relegation zone. With 35 points, the league newcomers currently sit in 15th place after 30 matches.
Speaking to the media, Hayford called for calm as the team fights to stay up. “I came in to make sure we rescue them from where they are because everybody wrote Lions out of the league. People thought they were already relegated before I came in, but now, we thank God we are also competing with those who were far ahead of us. We are not safe yet, but it is not over until it is over,” he said.
Lions will host league leaders Samartex on matchday 31 at the Kpando Stadium this Sunday. With four games remaining in the season, the team aims to secure maximum points to maintain their league status.
