Hearts of Oak have confirmed that they will use the University of Ghana Stadium as their temporary home ground for the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
This move comes after the National Sports Authority (NSA) closed the Accra Sports Stadium for urgent maintenance, following widespread criticism over the poor state of the pitch.
The University of Ghana Stadium, which was inaugurated on March 2, has already proven its capability, having hosted matches for the Africa Games Men’s Football tournament in Accra.
Hearts of Oak will share the venue with regional rivals Legon Cities FC and Accra Lions FC, both of whom have also confirmed their intent to use the facility this season.
In a statement released by the club, Hearts of Oak announced that their first match at the new venue will take place this weekend against Bechem United on matchday three of the Ghana Premier League. The Rainbow Club is under pressure to secure a win after losing their opening two matches to Basake Holy Stars and Kpando Heart of Lions.
The club’s official statement reads:
“We are pleased to announce that the University of Ghana Stadium will serve as our home ground for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, due to ongoing maintenance works at the Accra Sports Stadium. We look forward to welcoming our fans to this new venue as we strive for success in the upcoming matches.”
