Accra Hearts of Oak are actively exploring alternative venues for their home matches following the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Club Licensing Committee’s decision to reject the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Phobians had adopted the Legon Stadium as a temporary home ground due to the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for renovations. However, the recent assessment by the Club Licensing Committee deemed the University of Ghana Sports Stadium unfit to host Premier League games.
In light of this development, Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, confirmed that the club is considering alternative venues to stage their home games. “We are considering Sogakope, Kpando, and Tema stadiums as alternative venues,” he said.
Additionally, other clubs are facing similar challenges. Berekum Chelsea’s Golden City Park, Basake Holy Stars’ AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema, and Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium have also been ruled unfit to host league matches.
These measures align with the GFA’s Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, introduced following recent incidents affecting fan safety.
Despite these developments, Matchday 20 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League is set to proceed this weekend at approved venues.
