Hearts of Oak midfielder Mohammed Hussein has issued a heartfelt public apology for his unsporting conduct towards referee Reginald Collins Amoah following the club’s 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Hussein admitted his actions at the end of the match were unacceptable and took full responsibility, expressing deep remorse to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the referee, his teammates, and the club’s loyal supporters.
“With a heavy heart, I sincerely apologise to the GFA, the referee, my teammates, our cherished supporters, and the wider football community. What happened after the final whistle was unacceptable, and I take full responsibility for my behaviour,” he wrote.
The midfielder explained that frustration and emotion in a tense match clouded his judgment, leading to his regrettable reaction.
“Instead of showing restraint and respect, I reacted wrongly, and I regret it deeply,” Hussein added.
He further pledged to use the incident as a learning experience, promising to conduct himself with greater professionalism in the future.
“I am committed to making amends and proving, through my conduct going forward, that I have learned from this mistake.”
Hussein’s apology comes after Hearts of Oak publicly condemned the post-match incident and confirmed that internal disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the player. The Ghana FA’s disciplinary committee has also charged Hussein, giving him the opportunity to respond within the stipulated period.
