Hearts of Oak continued their impressive opening to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bibiani GoldStars at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
The Phobians had to overcome an early setback after GoldStars took control of the match and opened the scoring in the 10th minute through experienced forward Kwame Opoku.
The hosts started brightly and put Hearts under pressure in the opening stages, hoping to use their strong home record to secure their first points of the season.
Hearts gradually grew into the contest and became more threatening as the match progressed, but GoldStars managed to protect their advantage going into the break.
The visitors returned from the interval with greater purpose and eventually restored parity through Yaw Baafi.
Kwaku Boateng Henry picked out Baafi with an excellent pass, and the forward displayed good composure before calmly beating the GoldStars goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
The equaliser changed the momentum of the game, with Hearts suddenly looking more dangerous in attack.
Just five minutes later, the Phobians completed the turnaround.
Baafi played a key role in the move this time by setting up Kwaku Boateng Henry, who finished with a superb strike to put Hearts ahead for the first time in the game.
GoldStars responded strongly and threw players forward in search of an equaliser as the clock ran down.
Their best opportunity came late in the match when they were awarded a penalty, giving the home side a clear chance to level the score.
But Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare emerged as the hero, making a crucial save from the spot to preserve his side’s 2-1 advantage.
GoldStars continued to press in the closing minutes, but Hearts remained resolute and held on to secure another valuable three points.
The victory means Hearts of Oak have now won both of their opening league matches, following their emphatic 4-0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea on the opening weekend.
The Phobians have scored six goals in two matches and conceded only once, leaving them with a perfect six-point record at the top of the league standings.
The result is particularly significant considering GoldStars’ formidable home record. The Bibiani side had established Dun’s Park as one of the more difficult venues for visiting teams and had won their previous eight home league matches before Sunday’s encounter.
Hearts nevertheless showed strong character to recover from conceding early and secure all three points on the road.
For GoldStars, the defeat means they remain without a point after two matches, leaving the club with plenty to address as they seek to revive their campaign.
Hearts of Oak will next host Bechem United, while GoldStars will travel to face Dreams FC in their next league assignment.
