West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has described his inclusion in the Black Stars squad for this month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers as an honor.
Thomas-Asante earned his maiden call-up to Ghana’s senior national team after an outstanding season for the Championship club. He scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists across all competitions, as West Brom narrowly missed out on qualification to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old’s impressive performances throughout the season have earned him a place in the Black Stars squad for the second time, but he is making the final squad for the first time. In a post on Instagram, Thomas-Asante expressed his gratitude and eagerness to succeed with his teammates.
“Loving every minute. Extremely honored, and hungry for more success together! Thank you Jesus,” he wrote.
The Black Stars are set to face Mali on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako in the third round of qualifying for the Canada and USA World Cup. Four days later, the team will return to Ghana for the fourth-round match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against the Central African Republic.
Ghana opened its qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Madagascar in Kumasi before losing by the same scoreline to Comoros in the second group game.
Currently, Ghana sits fourth in Group I with three points, three behind leaders Comoros.
