Medeama’s forward, Jonathan Sowah, has expressed his ambition to become a pivotal figure for the Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team.
Sowah’s outstanding performances with Medeama have earned him a place in Chris Hughton’s 25-man squad for the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against the Central African Republic.
Remarkably, Sowah is the sole locally-based player selected for this important fixture against CAR.
In an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi, Sowah expressed his gratitude for the call-up and credited Coach Didi Dramani for his guidance during his time with the Local Black Stars camp. He revealed that playing for the senior national team had always been his dream, and he aspires to follow in the footsteps of legendary Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan.
Sowah emphasized his determination to secure a lasting place in the national team, stating, “I’m very happy for this call up into the Black Stars, many thanks to Coach Didi Dramani who taught me a lot at the Local Black Stars camp”
“It has always been my dream to play for the senior national team”
“I always look up to Asamoah Gyan that I will one day emulate what he did for Ghana. I thank God for granting my wish and all I need to do is to work hard, pray and fight for a chance”
“I am here to stay, even if I have to fight with the last drop of my blood, I will do it”
Sowah’s arrival at Medeama during the second half of the previous season was met with instant success, as he contributed with 12 goals, aiding the club in clinching their first Ghana Premier League title. Notably, he was the lone goal scorer when Medeama defeated Nigeria’s Remo Stars at the Cape Coast Stadium, securing their advancement to the next stage of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Ghana currently leads Group E of the AFCON qualifiers with nine points, closely followed by Angola with one point less. Central African Republic stands third on the group table with seven points and is determined to secure a victory at all costs to secure a place in the prestigious tournament.
