In-form Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has expressed confidence in retaining his place in the team despite the return of Kwame Opoku to the Porcupine Warriors.
Opoku, 27, rejoined Kotoko on a two-and-a-half-year deal, marking his second spell with the club after an underwhelming stint abroad. The forward initially left Kotoko in 2021 for USM Alger in Algeria, where he scored six goals in 16 Ghana Premier League matches prior to the transfer.
However, his time abroad proved challenging, with Opoku struggling for consistent playing time at both USM Alger and later at Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga. A knee injury further hampered his progress, culminating in his release following Khouribga’s relegation from the Moroccan top flight.
Amoah, who joined Asante Kotoko from Great Olympics during the summer transfer window, has been in scintillating form, netting seven goals in 13 Ghana Premier League appearances. The 25-year-old striker also etched his name in the history books with a dramatic stoppage-time winner against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the recent Super Clash.
Despite the competition Poku’s return brings, Amoah remains optimistic about the benefits to the team. Speaking about the challenge, Amoah stated:
“I am not afraid of competition. I do not fear his (Kwame Opoku’s) arrival. At the end of the day, it is the team that benefits. If I do not score, he can score. So that is positive for us.”
Amoah’s consistent performances have solidified his status as Kotoko’s key attacking force, and he remains focused on contributing to the team’s success, regardless of the added competition.
