Former Asante Kotoko defender Evans Owusu has expressed gratitude for his time with the club and hopes his former team triumphs over rivals Hearts of Oak in the highly anticipated Super Clash this Sunday.
The two giants of Ghanaian football are set to lock horns in a Matchweek 13 encounter of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium on December 15, 2024.
Asante Kotoko enter the clash with renewed confidence after ending a four-game losing streak with an impressive 2-0 away victory against Aduana Stars in their last fixture.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak boast an unbeaten run in their last four matches, including a three-game winning streak, making them equally optimistic about claiming bragging rights in this historic rivalry.
Evans Owusu, who also played for Liberty Professionals and Bibiani Gold Stars, acknowledged the intensity of the encounter but backed Kotoko to secure the win.
“In football, anything can happen, so I wouldn’t write Hearts of Oak off because we know the nature of this fixture. However, I am predicting a win for Asante Kotoko,” he told Sportsboom.
The former Kotoko defender credited the club for shaping his career and providing him with a platform to shine.
“Playing for Asante Kotoko has helped me so much; they gave me a platform to showcase my talent, and I also had the opportunity to enjoy the love and support from the fans. So, I am predicting a win for Asante Kotoko,” he added.
With both teams separated by just a point on the league table—Hearts sitting sixth with 19 points and Kotoko seventh with 18 points—the stage is set for an intense battle as both sides aim to claim superiority in the first Super Clash of the 2024/25 season.
