Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, Adams Abdul-Salam, has assured Ghanaians that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will prioritize the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Abdul-Salam made this promise following the declaration of John Dramani Mahama and the NDC as winners of the 2024 general elections. Despite the Black Stars’ disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Abdul-Salam expressed confidence in the president-elect’s commitment to revitalizing the national team.
“President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.
He further emphasized the government’s plans to collaborate with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to provide the necessary resources for success. “We did not qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament, but we will work closely with the GFA by providing them with the needed logistics to ensure the team gets qualification. It is our biggest objective to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the tournament.”
The Black Stars, currently tied with Comoros in second place in Group I with nine points, will continue their qualifiers in March 2025 with games against Chad and Madagascar.
Abdul-Salam also assured his constituents that the long-abandoned New Edubiase Sports Stadium will be completed under the Mahama administration.
