Accra Lions’ roars were silenced on Monday afternoon when they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Great Olympics.
The two teams clashed at the Accra Sports Stadium in a Week 5 fixture of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
Accra Lions made critical errors in defense during the match, conceding three goals within the opening 20 minutes.
In a post-match interview, head coach Ibrahim Tanko acknowledged that Great Olympics played well and deserved the win. He also highlighted the defensive mistakes made by Accra Lions, emphasizing the need for improvement.
“Our performance was very poor. We had a disastrous first half, and with two mistakes, we gifted them the game. It’s very painful, but they deserved the victory,” Coach Ibrahim Tanko commented.
He expressed concern about his team’s defense and stressed the importance of continued training to address these issues. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that Great Olympics deserved the win.
“I’m very worried about our defense but I mean I know we have to train for it. We have to keep on training for it and hope everything will be fine. Regardless, as I said Olympics deserved the win.”
Accra Lions’ next fixture will see them host Real Tamale United in the Ghana Premier League.
