Former Athletic Bilbao star Raul Garcia has voiced his belief that Iñaki Williams will soon find his rhythm with the Ghana national team.
Williams, who switched allegiance to Ghana in 2022, debuted for the Black Stars in a high-profile friendly against Brazil in September of that year. Born and raised in Spain’s Basque region, the 30-year-old forward has yet to translate his club success into consistent performances for Ghana, scoring only once in 21 appearances for the four-time African champions.
Despite his challenges on the international stage, Williams remains a vital player for Athletic Bilbao. His contributions have been instrumental in the club’s resurgence, including their Copa del Rey victory after a 40-year drought and two Spanish Super Cup triumphs.
Garcia attributed Williams’ struggles with Ghana to the challenges of adapting to a new team environment. “Obviously, the circumstances of having brand new colleagues and not being fully adapted to the team don’t make the situation easier. In Bilbao, we’ve known each other for many years, and that familiarity helps,” Garcia remarked.
He expressed confidence, however, in Williams’ ability to overcome these hurdles. “I’m sure Iñaki will achieve wonderful results. He knows he has to persevere, and I believe he will find his form with the team soon enough.”
This season, Williams has continued to shine at the club level, tallying four goals and five assists in 18 La Liga matches. His performances have propelled Athletic Bilbao into fourth place, solidifying their strong league campaign.
