Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku reflected on his performance and prospects under the guidance of head coach Otto Addo following Ghana’s international friendly defeat to rivals Nigeria.
Opoku acknowledged that his debut match against the USA didn’t go as planned and expressed a desire for improvement. Despite the challenges faced during that game, he saw the subsequent match as a stepping stone towards showcasing his abilities.
The game against the USA wasn’t ideal, especially as it was my first match. Our team performance didn’t aid me much, and I know I could have performed better. However, compared to that match, I see today’s game as a stepping stone for improvement”
Opoku praised Coach Addo’s style of play, which resonated with his own preference for a possession-based game over relying on long balls. He expressed confidence in his ability to demonstrate the quality of his game under Addo’s guidance.
“I appreciate the coach’s style, which aligns with my own preference for playing football rather than resorting to long balls. Under this coach, I believe I can demonstrate the quality of my game,” he ended.
Looking ahead, Opoku emphasized his commitment to working hard and making significant contributions to the national team. He expressed his aspirations to earn more caps for Ghana and evolve as both an individual player and a vital part of the team’s success.
“I aim to continue working hard and making significant contributions to the national team. Whenever I step onto the pitch, I strive to exhibit my skills and contribute positively to the team’s success. My goal is to earn more caps for Ghana and evolve as both an individual player and as part of the team.”
Ghana will next take on the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday, March 26, at the Stade de Marrakesh.
