Abdul Karim Zito has revealed that Asante Kotoko made efforts to convince him to stay on as head coach, but his decision to resign had already been taken.
The experienced coach stepped down from his role shortly after Kotoko’s exit from the MTN FA Cup, bringing an end to his spell with the club less than a year after taking charge.
According to Abdul Karim Zito, discussions were held with club officials in an attempt to resolve the situation, but he believed the best option was to walk away.
“It became a family issue, and we had to talk it out and find an amicable solution. In the end, we all agreed that I should leave,” he said.
He explained that despite the club’s desire for him to continue, his decision remained unchanged.
“They did their best to change my mind, but my mind was already made up. I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned,” Zito added.
His resignation comes amid a difficult 2025/26 season for the club, marked by inconsistent performances and internal challenges.
