Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, has responded firmly to critics following his team’s 2-0 victory over Bechem United, securing their first win of the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season.
In a post-match press conference, Ouattara emphasized his authority to make team selections while acknowledging the freedom of critics to express their opinions.
Playing their first match at the University of Ghana Stadium, which they’ve adopted as their temporary home ground due to the renovation of the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak looked confident as they cruised to victory.
In addressing the post-game questions, Ouattara said, “I am a democrat. When you criticize me and it’s not an insult, I take some of it. But just as you have the freedom to criticize, I also have the freedom to select the players I want.”
He called for unity among the club’s stakeholders, urging supporters to stand behind the team as they navigate the early stages of the season.
The victory sets Hearts of Oak up for their next league fixture against Nations FC on Friday, September 27, as they look to build momentum in the campaign.
