Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is confident that his current side, Sudan, and his native Ghana will both qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The draw on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa placed Sudan and Ghana in Group E, setting up an intriguing matchup between the two teams.
Appiah, who previously coached Ghana from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2019, expressed optimism about both teams’ chances of qualification.
“I’ve always said there are no minnows in football now,” he told 3 Sports. “Personally, I also think and hope Ghana and Sudan qualify in that group. For now, I think that is what I can say and I wish both teams the best.”
Sudan is currently sitting top of their 2026 World Cup qualifying Group B with ten points, two ahead of Senegal.
