Nsoatreman FC coach Maxwell Konadu has expressed surprise at his team’s success in the 2023/24 Ghana FA Cup campaign, which culminated in a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout win over Bofoakwa Tano in the final on Sunday.
Despite leading his team to victory, Konadu admitted that he didn’t expect to win the prestigious competition, which marked Nsoatreman FC’s first major trophy in their history.
“I knew we would do well before the start of the season, and I think when you believe in yourself, it’s the beginning of everything,” Konadu said in an interview after the game. “The self-belief did a lot. It motivated me to sign for Nsoatreman. I knew that we could do well in the league and the FA Cup, but I never thought we could win the Cup. It has come as a surprise to me.”
Nsoatreman FC came from behind to beat Bofoakwa Tano, with Sadat Mohammed equalizing for the underdogs in the 33rd minute. The game ended 1-1 after regular time, leading to a tense penalty shootout, which Nsoatreman SC won convincingly.
The win earns Nsoatreman FC the right to represent Ghana in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup next season, a massive achievement for the small-town club.
