Ghana international Marvin Senaya has revealed that extensive video analysis and tactical preparation played a crucial role in his impressive performance against England as the Black Stars secured a valuable 0-0 draw in their Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The AJ Auxerre full-back delivered another commanding display, helping Ghana frustrate one of the tournament favourites and maintain their unbeaten start to the competition in North America.
Senaya has emerged as one of the Black Stars’ standout performers, combining defensive solidity with composure on the ball in both of Ghana’s opening matches.
Facing a star-studded England attack featuring Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon, the defender remained disciplined throughout the encounter, limiting the influence of both wingers and preventing them from creating clear-cut opportunities.
Speaking after the match, Senaya revealed that careful preparation gave him the confidence to handle the challenge.
“I watched a lot of their [Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka] videos, and I wanted to show something today,” he said.
His performance earned widespread praise from fans and football analysts, with statistics highlighting his defensive dominance throughout the contest. The 24-year-old consistently won key duels, timed his tackles perfectly and maintained Ghana’s compact shape as the Black Stars secured a second consecutive clean sheet.
The result leaves Ghana and England level on four points at the top of Group L heading into the final round of fixtures.
While England will take on Panama, Carlos Queiroz’s side will face Croatia in a decisive encounter, knowing that another positive result could secure a place in the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
