Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has shared his thoughts following his departure from the club after an eight-year tenure.
Danlad is among the eighteen players who have been released as part of the club’s major squad overhaul, focusing on the 2024/25 season after a disappointing run in the Ghana Premier League.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Danlad expressed his sentiments on Instagram:
“An exciting journey comes to an end. It has been an honor playing for this great club for 8 years and contributing to winning the Premier League, FA Cup, President Cup, most of the domestic cups, as well as competing in CAF championships.”
He added, “On my first day joining this great club, I felt privileged and proud. I fell in love with Kumasi where I understood that Asante Kotoko is a big family.”
“Here I have grown not only as a professional player, but above all as a person. Now I think it’s time for me to take the next step in my career.”
Danlad also extended his gratitude, saying, “I would like to express my gratitude to everybody at Asante Kotoko, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the IMC, the coaches, the staff, my teammates, and everybody else including the amazing supporters/fans who made my time here so special and an experience I will never forget.”
“I will remain forever connected to this great club, which shaped most of my career.”
Danlad joined Asante Kotoko in the 2016-17 season and made significant contributions to the team. He has represented Ghana at various youth levels, including the U-17, U-20, U-23 teams, and the senior Black Stars. His accolades include winning the Ghana Premier League in the 2021-22 season, the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, and the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in 2020.
Individually, Danlad has been honored with the Golden Glove at both the WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament in 2020 and the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, as well as the Ghana Football Awards Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021.
During the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season, Danlad made thirteen appearances for Asante Kotoko.
