Ghanaian attacker Ibrahim Osman made his UEFA Champions League debut in Feyenoord’s thrilling 3-2 victory against La Liga side Girona on Wednesday evening.
Osman, currently on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, started the match and played 61 minutes before being substituted.
In Girona’s first-ever Champions League home game, the Spanish side took an early lead through David Lopez in the 19th minute. However, a deflected header off Girona’s Yangel Herrera leveled the score just four minutes later, followed by teenager Antoni Milambo putting Feyenoord ahead in the 33rd minute.
Despite Ayase Ueda missing a penalty for Feyenoord, the Dutch side managed to stay ahead. Girona had their own struggles from the penalty spot, as Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther saved Bojan Miovski’s attempt after conceding a foul in the box.
Donny van de Beek briefly equalized for Girona with his first goal since joining from Manchester United, but an own goal by Ladislav Krejci in the 79th minute sealed Girona’s fate, handing Feyenoord a narrow 3-2 win.
Although Osman is yet to score or provide an assist for Feyenoord, the 18-year-old has now made four appearances for the club this season.
