Former Ghana Captain, Asamoah Gyan, Shares His Thoughts on Andre Ayew’s Omission from Black Stars Roster for Upcoming World Cup Qualifiers
Former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan, has voiced empathy towards Andre Ayew’s exclusion from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic.
Gyan admitted that he would also feel unhappy if he were in Ayew’s position, citing the difficulty in accepting such decisions, especially considering Ayew’s form for Le Havre, where he has scored five goals in 12 starts.
“I think he should take it in good faith. He might be angry due to his recent form, but Andre knows how to handle situations like this. He will be fine,” Gyan said.
Ayew, who expressed his disagreement with the omission, received support from Gyan, who labeled Ayew’s reaction as ‘normal,’ emphasizing that being left out of the squad is a challenging situation for any player.
“If it was me, I wouldn’t be happy, which is a normal thing but at the end of the day, the coach has made the decision so we have to just support.
Despite the disappointment, Gyan stressed the importance of supporting the coach’s decision and recognizing Ayew’s status as a legend in Ghanaian football.
“We shouldn’t forget Andre is already a legend.”
Ghana is set to face Mali in Bamako on June 6, followed by a home fixture against Central African Republic in Kumasi.
