Ghana international Inaki Williams has expressed his delight after returning to action for Athletic Bilbao following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.
The Black Stars forward had been out for nearly two months while recovering from an injury sustained in October during Athletic’s UEFA Champions League clash against Qarabag FK, a match the Spanish side won 3-1 at the San Mamés.
Williams marked his return on Sunday, coming on as a substitute in Athletic Bilbao’s 2-0 away defeat to Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga, where he featured for 45 minutes.
Reflecting on his comeback, the 31-year-old said he was pleased to be back competing after a frustrating period away from the pitch.
“I felt good, growing into the game little by little. Despite the training, the most important thing is competing. I’m happy to be back and to be able to contribute as soon as possible,” Williams said.
The first half of the encounter ended in a goalless draw, with both sides adopting a cautious approach. However, Celta Vigo raised their intensity after the break and struck twice to secure all three points.
Williot Swedberg opened the scoring in the 48th minute, before Jones El-Abdellaoui added a second to seal victory for the hosts.
Williams has endured a modest start to the 2025/26 season, having made 13 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao, scoring one goal so far. His return, however, offers a timely boost for both club and country as he looks to regain full fitness and form in the weeks ahead.
