Canadian Premier League sensation Taryck Jordan Tahid has taken a significant step towards representing Ghana after making his debut for the Black Satellites in a friendly on Thursday, March 21, 2025.
The Vancouver FC midfielder was handed a starting role and played 70 minutes in Ghana’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco U20 in a four-nation tournament. His participation is part of an effort to secure a place in Ghana’s squad for next month’s TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Black Satellites have been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Tanzania, DR Congo, and a yet-to-be-determined team from the Central African Football Federations Union (UNIFAC). The tournament is set to run from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
Tahid, who previously represented Canada at the FIFA U17 World Cup in November 2023, remains eligible to play for the North American nation at the senior level. Despite this, the Maple Ridge native expressed his excitement about the opportunity to play for Ghana.
“I’m incredibly grateful and honoured to have the opportunity to represent my motherland and my family,” Tahid said.
His performance in the tournament could determine whether he earns a spot in Ghana’s final squad for the U20 AFCON.
