James Kwasi Appiah, a member of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), has cast doubt on his appointment as the head coach of the Sudanese national team, revealing that he has not yet signed the deal.
In September 2023, it was reported that the Sudanese Football Association had selected former Ghana coach James Kwasi Appiah as the new head coach of the country on a three-year contract.
Before this appointment, Kwasi Appiah was named, along with three others, by Life Patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to a four-member committee responsible for overseeing the affairs of Asante Kotoko.
However, the 63-year-old coach is also vying for a position on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, with the elections scheduled for Thursday, October 5 in Tamale.
Kwasi Appiah has expressed his commitment to both his role with Kotoko and his candidacy for Executive Council Member, saying, “I’m yet to sign the Sudan deal and it may even be that I will not go. That’s why I’m focused on the Kotoko job and EXCO election to become a council member,” as he informed Kumasi-based Kessben FM.
Appiah previously built a strong reputation in Sudan when he managed Al Khartoum from 2014 to 2017. During his tenure, he led the club to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup and achieve its highest-ever points total, amassing 65 points in his second season in charge.
